Abstract

Color is a key component of interior design that can influence users’ perception, emotions, and spatial experience. This study aimed to explain patterns of color preference based on MBTI personality types in private residential spaces. A descriptive-analytical correlational study was conducted among 384 residents of one and two story detached houses in District 6, Shiraz. Data were collected using the MBTI questionnaire and three-dimensional interior design renderings with different color schemes and analyzed using the chi-square test, Cramer’s V, correspondence analysis, and multinomial logistic regression. The results showed a significant relationship between personality types and color preferences. Analysts preferred white, blue, and gray; Sentinels preferred white, green, and blue; Diplomats preferred green, white, and yellow; and Explorers preferred white, gray, and warm colors. After controlling for age, gender, and education, the overall effect of personality type and color remained significant. These findings suggest that personality characteristics can provide a basis for personalized, user-centered interior design in residential spaces.
